A Part of the Family — Bequest

We'd like to say that we were always committed supporters of the college — but couldn't reaffirm the Honor Code if we did. After graduating with a ton of student debt and no visible means of ever escaping it, the idea of giving more to the college seemed somewhere between remote and absurd. We wondered how Lawrence could be so clueless as to ask penniless new grads to give to it.

But time changes circumstances, perspective, and minds; and, after enough of it (and finally paying off those loans), we recognized that the real question is, how could we not give to Lawrence? The college is such a part of our own legacy that we've grown to feel a familial connection to, and responsibility for, it. We met at Lawrence. Two of our three children surprised us by choosing it, as well. Many of our closest and longest-lasting friendships were made at Lawrence. And the experiences we had there and things we learned — academically and otherwise — are integral and indelible to us both.

Lawrence will always be a part of us. Through the Legacy Circle we can always be part of it, in return.
